About WedgeSoft

Home

WedgeSoft is a one person company. I am a retired UNIX programmer and systems administrator.  However, I am hardly retired! I work long hours. I just don't get paid for what I do.  This past year, I have been working on ColorMorph.  Hopefully, ColorMorph will change the "I just don't get paid for what I do", to some small positive cash return.

I wrote WSMaze to learn how to program in C++ and to learn how to program under Windows.  Up tell 1998, I had never owned a Windows computer.  My first home computer was a Vic 20, then a Commodore 64, then an Amiga.  Until Windows 95, I didn't think highly of Microsoft computers. I'm quit happy with Windows XP; but UNIX is more stable.  I like the Microsoft programming environment.  I've written in  languages prior to C, through UNIX C, MS V6 C++, on to C++/CLI Microsoft's Dot Net environment.  I thought to avoid C#; but see that it can not be avoided.  All my latest work has been in C# and recently have been working with VS9 and LINQ.

I wrote WSQuiz at the request of Mark Brumles, who is a Bible Bowl Coach.  When we lived in Michigan, my wife and I attended a fantastic little country church, Merrill Wesleyan.  After we moved back to Colorado, Mark outlined an idea for a program to aid his Bible Bowl group.  I tried to sell it for several years.  But did not sell many copies, so in mid 2006 I published a long term key.  I hope more people will use the program now that it is free.  (I doubt that I will rewrite WSQuiz in C#.  I gave the source away to Mark.)

I worked for an aerospace company for 15 years.  Many years in support of Computervision, a proprietary graphics systems. Moved to UNIX when Computervision was forced to abandon their proprietary hardware for Sun workstations.  Then to "glueware" tying remote interfaces to a central databases.  (That one was fun!  This was PRIOR to the internet and web browsers as we know them today -- it was ground breaking work.) And finally, in support of the Environmental Protection Agencies Super Computer Center (NESC) in Bay City Michigan. (That too was a lot of fun.) I took an early retirement in 1998 and moved back to Colorado.

For a number of years I hunted for a commercial project.  My wife quilts.  She is very good at it!  Of course, right off, I thought to write a quilting program. But, on seeing Electronic Quilt, I thought, "its been done."  So, I cast about several years for a project.  Some time later, I thought, "I'll write my own quilting program, regardless of Electronic Quilt.  It will be different.  Maybe better."  But, I did not manage my time well.  I changed directions.  The software advanced, and I started over several times.  Besides, I was retired, my wood shop called, and there were other things to do. Then, toward the end of 2006, I had an idea for a program that spreads colors between two selected colors.  My wife thought it a good idea.  So, once again, I changed course, and began work on a new program.  This time I finished!  ColorMorph is the result.   I prefer the name ColorSpread to ColorMorph; but the name Color Spread was taken.  ColorMorph is a good name.  The colors "morph" from one color to the next.

If you have a need for some small MS Forms or database application, or your own customization to Word or Excel, at very reasonable cost; consider contacting me at gammill@wedgesoft.com.  By "small", I mean an application that can be finished in less than 6 month.  You may not know how complex your need is.  We can talk it over.  I am not web oriented -- I don't do web site work. Be sure to put ColorMorph, or WSMaze in the email subject, or it will never make it through my email filters.
